Dear Friends and Colleagues

On behalf of the organisers and the scientific committee, we are happy to extend our invitation to the 10th European Congress on Tropical Medicine and International Health (ECTMIH) in Antwerp, Belgium from October 16th to 20th, 2017. ECTMIH, a biennial event patronised by the Federation of European Societies of Tropical Medicine and International Health (FESTMIH), is Europe’s leading conference and networking event in the field of tropical medicine and biomedical sciences and of international and global health.

The Antwerp Institute of Tropical Institute (ITM) and the Belgian Platform for International Health (Be-Cause Health) will join hands with FESTMIH to organise the 10th and festive edition. It will bring together scientists and experts from Europe and from all over the world in the splendid venue of the Elisabeth congress centre featuring historical buildings, state of the art technology and the fabulous Antwerp Zoo as break-out garden. Situated at the doorstep of the iconic Central Station, it gives direct access to the rich cultural, historical and gastronomic heritage of Antwerp. Please read more about the conference, the programme and the venue at www.ectmih2017.be.

We look forward to receiving many scientific contributions and kindly remind you that the deadline for submitting abstracts is 1st April , 2017. In response to many requests, we launch a Call for ‘Organised Sessions’, initiated and coordinated by a national society member of FESTMIH, or any other organisation, institution, consortium or a group of investigators. Further information on the Call for Abstracts and the Call for Organised Sessions is also available below.

Call for Abstracts

ECTMIH 2017 will have a broad and inclusive agenda that appeals to all scientists and experts working in the field of tropical, international and global health. The sessions will focus on a range of tracks, each of which will be coordinated by three members of the Scientific Committee. Within each track, a series of themes will be explored in specific oral or poster sessions, symposia, debates and other formats.

The list of tracks below is not exhaustive or exclusive; the scientific committee welcomes proposals for additional tracks and/or themes. The themes can be organised in different formats, depending on the number and quality of submitted abstracts. Subjects that cut across different themes can be organised in a separate track. Most plenary sessions will be devoted to keynote lectures introducing the different tracks or themes. Each oral session will take approximately 90′ and can include invited lectures as well as selected abstracts.

ECTMIH Tracks:

1. Breakthroughs and innovations in tropical biomedical science 2. Ecology of tropical disease agents
3. State-of-the-art in clinical tropical medicine
4. Control, elimination and eradication sciences

5. Health systems and public health 6. International health collaboration 7. Global health
8. Integrated and other subjects

Each track consists of themes and sessions.

Main Objectives

In response to many requests, we launch a call for proposals for “Organised Sessions”, initiated and coordinated by a national society member of FESTMIH, or any other organisation, institution, consortium or a group of investigators. Organised Sessions should have a specific scientific focus and will be integrated in the regular programme (morning or afternoon sessions) with a maximal duration of 90′ (http://ectmih2017.be/programme/). The outline and the abstracts of the presentations within Organised Sessions will be subject to the ECTMIH scientific peer review system.

ECTMIH levies no fee for organised sessions, but number of slots is limited. The slots will be awarded competitively on the basis of a proposal along a standard template. The travel, boarding and attendance costs of speakers and participants, including the congress fee, should in principle be covered by the organisers or the contributors. Limited support can be made available on a case-by-case basis, particularly for invited speakers from low or middle countries.

The format of an Organised Session preferably follows the one of the regular programme, i.e. four to so six presentations followed by questions and discussion. However, also alternative or combined formats will be considered e.g. panel discussion and debates.

The abstracts of the presentations should be submitted together with the session template and follow the regular abstract format (http://ectmih2017.be/call-for-abstracts). These abstracts should, however, not be submitted simultaneously or separately for the regular tracks or sessions. In case of non-approval or cancellation of the Organised Session the Organised Session abstracts will be evaluated on their individual merit and may be integrated in a regular session.

The deadline for submission of proposals for organised sessions is 1st April 2017.

Submission instructions are available here.
Please note that “Organised Sessions” are different from the sponsored “Satellite Symposia” that will be hosted, organised and funded by organisations or companies during lunch or evening breaks (see Sponsorship Prospectus). Slots for Satellite Symposia are still available.

Programme

The meeting will start with an official opening session including key-note speeches on Monday, October, 16th around 17.00 hrs., followed by a festive reception. From Tuesday, October 17th 9.00 hrs through Friday, October 20th 12.00 hrs, the floor will be given to plenary talks in the early morning sessions (9.00 – 10.30), followed by parallel sessions organised along the tracks and themes between 11.00 – 12.30, 14.00 – 15.30, 16.00 – 17.30. During lunch breaks (12.30-14.00) and in the evenings (18.00-19.30), the floor is open to invited or sponsored symposia. The closing session will take place from 12.00 hrs to 13.00 hrs on
